With all the different brands of yogurt makers available, what features should you look out for?
Since making yogurt takes a long time to make, an electric yogurt maker with a timer is highly recommended. You can buy cheaper makers, but then you will always have to keep an eye on the temperature and remember to check on it to see if the yogurt is done cooking. Auto-shut off is another beneficial feature with the timer.
The quality of the jars is another aspect to look for. Makers with glass jars instead of plastic ones will be much better, but make sure they are good ones or they may break easily. Glass jars won't melt and can be easily washed in the dishwasher. Also, consider how many jars the yogurt maker can hold. You may think a compact yogurt maker is all you need, but with more jars, you can make multiple flavors and variations. Add different fruits and nuts to the jars for more variety.
An electric yogurt maker with a see through lid is also helpful to see the progress of your homemade yogurt.
